We just got this book and so far we have only read through the first week, but my husband and I are enjoying the devotions very much. The week day readings are only one page long (takes less than 5 minutes or so to read) so they are very feasible for a quick devotion at night. Sundays are a little longer at two pages, but still it only took less than 10 minutes. There are little questions at the end to spur some pillow talk and it's just a nice way to end the day. Some devotionals can be a little daunting, especially when you are tired. But somehow this one manages to find a balance between light and meaty all at once, which is quite remarkable. It also a balance of encouragement between both young and old couples. We highly recommend it.

I bought this book to bring my husband and I closer together in Christ. We were quickly approaching a divorce, it seemed, as he had stepped away from his faith in God. He wasn't living like he should. This book has shed a light in our marriage and while times are still tough from time to time, we both are realizing how to be a better couple in Christ. Thanks to a supportive family, lots of prayers and this devotional, we're much better now. If you take it seriously, God can work his wonder in your life, you just have to open your heart to him.
Good book for husbands and wives. We read this together each night. Though we don't really sick to what night we are reading, sometimes we will read more than one. Eachbreadingbis nicr and short so if you've had a long night there's no reason you shouldn't be able to fit one in each night. We really enjoyed the book. SHMILY!
Nice book to bring couples together for reflection at the end of the day. Much of it is geared toward younger couples, but we went through it in our 50's and still started many useful dialogues from the readings.
We are a newly wed couple and we use nightlight as our fellowship tool. It's our 'morning light' devotional, because the mornings is our best time to pray together.It develops intimacy between us because it causes us to answer some revealing questions to each other everyday.We planned to just go crazy and have fun during the first year of our marriage, to "taste and see that the world is good." But nightlight has kept is grounded in our Christian faith while still enjoying the honeymoon phase of our new love.
This is a wonderful book for couples!! My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it together. Some of the questions are pretty straight forward, but most of them get us talking. We highly recommend it!
Despite being described as a devotional for new and old couples, this one really comes across as more suited for newlyweds. Young newlyweds.Let me tell you where I am coming from...I am a 35 year old married Christian man, married for 13 years with two kids. I love James Dobson and think he is one of the best Christian thinkers out there, especially when it comes to family. Bringing Up Girls and Bringing Up Boys are fantastic, must-read books. I financially support FotF (still do, even since James left there).I preface with this so my criticism of this book has some context. I, actually we, did not like this devotional very much. We have owned it for over a year now and we have not finished the book (probably about 3/4 through). It is not a devotional we looked forward to doing together. The book has a lot going for it but, to me, suffers from a fatal flaw: the questions that are listed after each daily devotion, which are meant to create interaction and discussion with your spouse. They are just so rhetorical and not thought-provoking at all, plus they seem to have a slant geared towards newer Christians/couples. It got annoying to the point that we have become cynical about doing this devotion.There are good stories told by James and Shirley in this book that are worth reading. And my greatest praise of this book are the brief prayers listed after each daily devotion, usually about 1 or 2 sentences long. Dr. Dobson is able to say some very profound and insightful prayers in very few words. I just wish the discussion questions had the same level of insightfulness.In summary, I do not recommend this book as a couple's devotional. While it has good stories and insightful prayers to read each day, the purpose of the devotional (grow in deeper relationship as husband and wife through a deepening relationship with Jesus) was lacking at the most important point of interaction.
